The pin can be outfitted with balls or finials for a decorative touch. Similar to the butt hinge but used only on flush doors; doors that rest within the frame are butterfly hinges. These cabinet door hinges are also constructed with two flaps with screw holes held together by a pin. The difference is these hinges are mounted on the outside of the door and frame giving your cabinet a decorative touch. They are available in several styles to suit your taste ranging from colonial to art deco and more. Pivot hinges are made for overlay doors which are doors that rest over the door frame.
But when door hinges become a bit unhinged from years of use they can not only cause doors to squeak stick or rub but allow heat to escape and cold to enter. Unlike the old days when door hinges were made of iron brass or steel todays hinges come in an array of materials and finishes. Thanks to modern manufacturing techniques most of these finishes are maintenance free. Left alone they wont tarnish rust or fail over time.
Alternatively if you can identify the brand name and model number of your hinge you can contact the manufacture directly to determine if theres a clip-on attachment is designed to work with your hinge style. Calculating one slow-close clip per door puts us in the neighborhood of one hundred and twenty dollars ($120) to upgrade a standard sized kitchen to have this feature throughout.
