Door Hinges / September 28, 2018 / Pauline Francoeur.
What do begin to fail are the screws that hold the door hinges on the door and the frame. The stresses and strains of everyday openings begin to loosen the screws. This is particularly true on heavier doors that are either left open a lot or bear lots of traffic. At least twice a year you want to go through your entire home inspecting all the door hinges. If you find an loose screws simply tighten them with a screwdriver. If the screws in the door hinges spin in their place and wont tighten into the wood it means the holes are stripped. When this happens do the following: 1) Remove the screws on that particular hinge.
I am sure that you know what door hinges are but you probably just think that they are the reason why the door opens and closes. While this is true there is a another purpose for door hinges. Door hinges can also do more than squeak they can be used to make your door look nicer. Hinges much more noticeable when they look bad but when they look good you dont know why the door might look as good as it does. This is truly an eye catching piece of door hardware but without the grasp or understanding that you are actually noticing it. Let me explain this its as if your spouse got a haircut you notice that they look different but you just cant seem to put your figure on the change. The only difference here is that the door wont yell at you your spouse will.
These were large tapestries that were hanging in front of a big hole in the wall. They would block the entryway to a room and had to be pushed out of the way every time you wanted to go in or out. Going further back in time were large rocks that would have to be rolled in front of the door and then rolled away or pieces of wood that were pulled in front of the doorway and pushed back every time you wanted to go in and out. While it did the general job of a door it was a very inconvenient and very heavy way to go. These images illustrate why we should be thankful that someone finally came up with the great idea to make a more easy to use access to a room namely a door on door hinges.
The new slow-close attachments only need to be added to one hinge per cabinet door unless you have large pantry doors. In such cases it is advisable to install two units per door. They will not work on just any European hinge though. You must have the correct straight-arm hinge brand and model number in order to be able to add the attachment to them. The hydraulic apparatus is sold as a separate piece from the hinge and clips on after the doors have been completely adjusted. To determine if the clip-on accessory is available for your existing hinge brand remove a hinge from your cupboard door and visit your local cupboard manufacturing supply company.
