Selecting The Proper Door Hinges Now that you appreciate the invention of door hinges you need to make sure you have the right ones at work in your home. First make sure you have enough to do the job that needs to be done on your door. For the most part you will be able to choose between 2 or 3 door hinges on most doors. In some cases the door will come with the set number of hinges. In other cases you should think about the weight of the door before deciding on the number of hinges that should be used. While wood doors are generally able to be held with two hinges (unless they are very heavy wood or oversized door) if you have a steel door you need to make sure the hinges are strong enough to hold it.
The new slow-close attachments only need to be added to one hinge per cabinet door unless you have large pantry doors. In such cases it is advisable to install two units per door. They will not work on just any European hinge though. You must have the correct straight-arm hinge brand and model number in order to be able to add the attachment to them. The hydraulic apparatus is sold as a separate piece from the hinge and clips on after the doors have been completely adjusted. To determine if the clip-on accessory is available for your existing hinge brand remove a hinge from your cupboard door and visit your local cupboard manufacturing supply company.
Cabinet door hinges are one of the biggest afterthoughts in home design but they often get the biggest workout in the home. Nary an hour goes by that someone isnt opening a cabinet somewhere in the home whether its in the kitchen pantry bathroom or hallway. Most simply make do with the hinges that came with the cabinet. Only when they begin to squeak and sway in complaint about their endless exercise do we give thought to changing them. And only then do we only change the offending hinge that has failed to do its duty tightly and quietly. But changing out hinges can yield some exciting results in the home particularly when they are visible hinges.
This is just figuring the cost of the materials though. To have them installed by a cabinetry professional may cost an additional seventy five to one hundred and fifty dollars. If you cannot locate a soft close part to work with your existing hinges or you are not interested in switching out your hinges to be able to benefit from the new clip-on piece you can purchase a buffer shock absorber that attaches to the cabinet separate from the hinge. Some of these mechanisms get pressed into a hole that is drilled into the cupboard top or bottom. Other styles can be installed using screws. The purchase cost of these parts ranges from three to six dollars each. There will be only one slow-close part that needs to be installed per kitchen or bathroom cabinet door.
