Cabinet door hinges are one of the biggest afterthoughts in home design but they often get the biggest workout in the home. Nary an hour goes by that someone isnt opening a cabinet somewhere in the home whether its in the kitchen pantry bathroom or hallway. Most simply make do with the hinges that came with the cabinet. Only when they begin to squeak and sway in complaint about their endless exercise do we give thought to changing them. And only then do we only change the offending hinge that has failed to do its duty tightly and quietly. But changing out hinges can yield some exciting results in the home particularly when they are visible hinges.
What do begin to fail are the screws that hold the door hinges on the door and the frame. The stresses and strains of everyday openings begin to loosen the screws. This is particularly true on heavier doors that are either left open a lot or bear lots of traffic. At least twice a year you want to go through your entire home inspecting all the door hinges. If you find an loose screws simply tighten them with a screwdriver. If the screws in the door hinges spin in their place and wont tighten into the wood it means the holes are stripped. When this happens do the following: 1) Remove the screws on that particular hinge.
However that does not mean that they cant be beautiful all at the same time. Nowadays there are many eye-catching options perfect for adding the extra special touch to the doors in your home.
