What is a high door threshold? This would be any doorway that has a threshold that you have to step over or a threshold that is higher than the surface you are walking on. These safety problems are obvious the high door thresholds are a trip hazard and for elderly people can be difficult to step over. Handicapped people in wheelchairs or motorized scooters wont be able to access these areas unless there is an alternative doorway that provides access for their wheelchairs. Usually the high door thresholds are located in a garage where someone has either made a mistake during new construction or simply figured that it would be easier to install the door a little higher and to remove the concrete foundation footing to install the door properly.
These reusable protectors provide excellent protection however they are the most expensive jamb protectors in the market. Less expensive cardboard protectors wrap around jambs in a similar fashion and cost considerably less than their plastic counterparts. These are available from a wide range of manufacturers can be purchased online or in construction supply stores as well. Most entry door thresholds are manufactured from metal or a combination of metal and wood. Metal thresholds often have black anodized coatings that are easily scratched or dented. Wood thresholds can be stained scratched and dented as well.
When youre satisfied that the door system is in the correct position drill through the thickest part of the hinge jamb with a regular drill at the hinges areas and then further drill into the cinderblock with a hammer drill. Drill the strike jamb in the same corresponding locations with the middle drilling positioned between the strike and deadbolt mortises. Countersink jambs holes to flush the masonry screw heads. It may be necessary to remove the door from the hinges for this step just remember to check the indexed jambs alignment to be sure nothing has moved. Remove shims and then remove door system from the rough opening. This must be done to install the plastic expansion sleeves into the holes drilled into the cinderblock.
