Door Threshold / September 15, 2018 / Leala Melanson.
This protection screws into a wood subflooring to hold it in place and thus cannot be used on sliding doors installed over cement slabs which are commonly used on the west coast. Another option that does work for protecting sliding doors installed on cement slabs is impact-resistant U-board protection. It is a thick heavy weight compressed paper protection that is made from recycled material and is completely reusable. The U-board is placed over the tracks while the door is open and protects sliding door tracks from dirt and grime. As with the plastic protector the Sill Pro keeps the sliding tracks clean and protects the tracks of the door from damage that can interfere with the working operations of the door.
This is key is providing you with a weather proof and secure garage. During construction or remodeling projects door thresholds are often destroyed by dirt mud paint splatter and careless spills. In order to avoid replacing or refinishing thresholds it is recommended that contractors use temporary threshold protection. Following is a brief description of the pros and cons of each type of threshold protection. UV protective tape is the best kind of adhesive threshold protection. It is a 9 mil. thick white tape that does not flake even if exposed to bright sunlight.
Not only do threshold ramps allow entry for scooters and wheelchairs they also help prevent tripping injuries. These ramps provide greater and safer access for all. Rubber plastic and aluminum are the most common materials used in threshold ramps. Rubber ramps are commonly sold to clear heights up to three inches. They can be used indoors or outdoors and are durable. Rubber ramps can be cut and trimmed to customize the needed height or size. They work great for door thresholds and small steps with the capability to support the weights of up to 850 pounds. Ive always enjoyed installing residential entry doors.
Ive learned by the hard way of experience that its necessary to remove old existing jambs carefully. If directly fastened to masonry with cut nails jambs removal may break out the cinderblock unless the jambs are cut into short manageable lengths. An out of level concrete threshold step can be ground flat by a concrete cutting subcontractor or the door threshold can be adjusted by unscrewing and repositioning in the jamb by the amount out of level. Any attached brickmold and casing must be removed from the jambs to make installation easier with shimming. Also brickmold will probably have to be ripped in width to fit the overall brick opening width and height.
